Moon and Robinson partner to evaluate traffic flow at shared intersection
Posted: September 15, 2010
As many area motorists may know from experience, the intersection of Montour Run Road and Beaver Grade Road can be a tough place to turn left onto either roadway.
The intersection straddles Moon and Robinson townships, which means the two communities must take joint responsibility for any traffic flow improvements at the juncture. Recently, the Moon Township Board of Supervisors and the Robinson Township Board of Commissioners took the first step to possible improvements.
At their Aug. 25, workshop meeting, the Moon Supervisors voted to approve a traffic study in collaboration with Robinson Township to evaluate traffic volumes and traffic signal warrants at the intersection. The traffic study will determine the feasibility of a potential improvement project as the two communities partner to reevaluate the intersection.

Sharon Road: Traffic calming follow-up meeting scheduled for Sept. 15
Posted: September 7, 2010
About a year has passed since speed humps were installed on Sharon Road to put the brakes on speeding traffic through the popular shortcut. During the 2009 Road Program, the speed humps were installed at four points along Sharon Road through Moon Township’s Residential Traffic Management Program, which is activated by a written request and petition from residents.
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this traffic-calming measure, the Moon Township Board of Supervisors is holding a public follow-up meeting for residents of the Sharon Road neighborhood at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the Moon Township Municipal Building. Residents with an interest are encouraged to attend.

New traffic signs coming to Fern Hollow neighborhood
Posted: September 7, 2010
Residents who live in the Fern Hollow neighborhood off of Thorn Run Road soon will notice new traffic signs on two of their streets.
A new stop sign will be installed on Laura Lee Drive approaching LaRue Drive, and a “School bus stop ahead” sign will be placed on LaRue Drive, about 500 feet before its intersection with Pine Drive sometime this fall.
This new signage will be installed through Moon Township’s Residential Traffic Management Program, which is activated by a written request and petition submitted by residents. Both school and Port Authority buses travel through the neighborhood, which also is the location of Hyde Elementary school. Residents expressed concern about speeding along these roadways, especially in the vicinity of bus stops.
After a traffic study determined that the stop sign and precautionary signs are warranted, the Board of Supervisors voted to approve the signage at its Aug. 25, workshop meeting.
Moon Township’s Residential Traffic Management Program provides a procedure for residents to submit traffic calming requests concerning a particular street or neighborhood. The program was established through Ordinance 620, which the Board of Supervisors adopted in August 2007.
