Resumes being accepted for board, council positions

Moon Township is currently accepting letters of interest and resumes from residents who would like to serve on one of the Township’s volunteer-based boards, committees or commissions beginning in January 2010.
The Board of Supervisors make appointments to the following boards: Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Zoning Hearing Board, MCA-TV Advisory Board, Environmental Advisory Council, Historical Architectural Review Board, Vacancy Board, Moon Township Recreation Authority, Library Board of Trustees, and the Uniform Construction Code Board of Appeals.
All appointments are made at the January Reorganization Meeting. Township residents interested in serving on a board, council or commission should submit a letter of interest and resume to Jeanne Creese, Moon Township Manager, 1000 Beaver Grade Road, Moon Township, PA 15108.

Public Hearing Notices

At the regular meeting to be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 7:00 PM, in the Township Municipal Building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road, the Board of Supervisors of Moon Township will hold a public hearing on and consider the adoption of, and if appropriate enact, the proposed ordinance amendment to Chapter 208 of the Moon Township Code, Zoning. The proposed zoning amendment is to change the zoning district designation for the following properties designated by Allegheny County Block/Lot No.: (1) 596-R-12 owned by Arthur D. Tarquinio to C-1 Neighborhood Commercial from R-1A Low Density Residential.
Complete true and correct copies of the proposed ordinances are on file and may be examined by the public at the Moon Township Municipal Building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road, Moon Township, PA, during the hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM Wednesday and 8:30 AM to Noon Friday. Copies of these proposed ordinances are also available for inspection at the newspaper publishing this legal notice and at the Office of the Allegheny County Council Clerk, Allegheny County Courthouse, Pittsburgh, PA.

Important Traffic Announcement for Flaugherty Run Road

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will close Flaugherty Run Road near the Flaugherty Run Bridge between June 12 and September 27. Motorists may use either Broadhead Road or Stoops Ferry Road to access University Boulevard. Detour signs will be posted.

Supervisors approve 2010 Final Budget

Real Estate Tax is the largest source of revenue for Moon Township. In 2010, the real estate tax rate remains at 3.28 mills for the 5th year. The tax is computed by multiplying the millage rate by the assessed value of the property. Allegheny County maintains property values and assesses property.
The Real Estate Tax Collector for Moon Township and the Moon Area School District is Katherine Tress, an elected official who serves a four year term. Delinquent property taxes are collected by Keystone Municipal Collections.
Township property taxes are billed on April 1st. A discount of 2% may be taken if the taxes are paid on or before May 31. Taxes are due at face if paid by July 31. A penalty of 10% is applied if paid between August 1 and February 1 of the following year.
