MCA-TV and RMU to Unveil New Production Trailer
Posted: Aug. 31, 2011

In a partnership to bring local sports and event coverage to Moon Area viewers, Moon Community Access Television and Robert Morris University will unveil the new MCA-TV Production Trailer to the community at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Moon Township Municipal Building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road.

RMU has partnered with Moon Township to sponsor the production trailer, which will take MCA-TV on the road this fall for its fifth season of RMU sports coverage and 26th Moon Area High School football season.

The 20-foot production trailer is fully equipped for high-definition television production and nearly doubles the operational space of the station’s previous trailer of 16 years.

“Since 2007, MCA-TV has been teaming up with RMU students and staff to produce Colonials sports, and we are excited to continue collaborating through this new partnership,” said Jim Koepfinger, MCA-TV executive director. “The new production trailer is a much-needed upgrade, and we are grateful to both RMU and the Moon Township Board of Supervisors for supporting our efforts to take our coverage out into the community.”

MCA-TV’s production trailer brings Moon Area viewers regular coverage of RMU home games and Moon Area High School football games complete with graphics, slow-motion instant replay, sideline and play-by-play reporting. In addition to athletics, monthly Moon Township Board of Supervisors meetings are televised live from the production trailer, which also makes the rounds to a variety of community events throughout the year.

The trailer also serves as a mobile training ground for the volunteers and RMU students who work with the MCA-TV staff to produce high school and RMU athletic events, including football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse and softball games.

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with MCA-TV, which serves two important purposes for RMU: It affords our students an opportunity to get hands-on video production experience, and it lets us share our events with our neighbors in Moon Township and throughout the region,” said Jonathan Potts, senior director of public relations at Robert Morris University.

Featured speakers for the event include Dr. Barbara Levine, Dean of the RMU School of Communications and Information Sciences, and Jim Vitale, chairman of the Moon Township Board of Supervisors. A crew of MCA-TV volunteers – with some help from RMU mascot, RoMO – will demo the trailer by producing the event, and tours will be available for a behind-the-scenes looks at mobile television production. Artwork also will be unveiled for a full-color vehicle wrap displaying the RMU and MCA-TV logos.
