2011 Comprehensive Plan Update
The Plan
The ten-year update – which is required by the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code – builds on the township’s 2000 Comprehensive Plan to map out long-range community development goals and prioritized strategies to achieve them. The plan also crafts strategies to pace development and growth with the infrastructure and economic resources that sustain it.
The Consultants
Primary consultant: Olsen Associates, LLC
Transportation consultant: L.R. Kimball
The Scope
As required by the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, the Comprehensive Plan update will analyze the following planning components: Land use, housing, transportation, public facilities, environmental/historical preservation and the plan’s compatibility with neighboring communities. In addition to these required components, Olsen’s $80,698 base bid includes three alternate studies focused on the township’s overlay districts, Mooncrest Historic District and an analysis of a Town Center concept.
The Process
Olsen Associates will work with a committee of township residents and stakeholders throughout the process. Together, the group will assess the present state of the community and work toward formulating goals for its future. The committee will hold monthly planning meetings, which are open to the public, throughout 2011.
The Timeline The Comprehensive Planning process will take about a year to gather information and develop a report, which the Board of Supervisors will consider during a public hearing.
Public Input Public input plays an integral part in the comprehensive planning process. Follow the process at www.moontwp.com , where reports and documents will be posted monthly, or attend a public committee meeting. The committee also will release a community survey this summer to gather public input on development in Moon Township.
